Romney’s Search for the Black Vote

As we’re sure you’ve all heard of by now, GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney delivered a speech at the NAACP National Convention in Houston, TX last week. Considering his ultimate goal is to be the President, Romney is taking  steps to connect with black voters and the NAACP Convention was the first step. Many attendees at the convention, noted that Mitt lacked the finesse of a true orator often speaking in a tone that duplicated that of a teacher to his students. He also didn’t win any points as he was booed three times during his time at the podium. Those highlights included when he vowed to repeal Obamacare if elected, next when stated that President Obama had done nothing for the economy and finally when he promised to be a President who made decisions with African American people’s interest at heart. I guess the crowd in Houston, didn’t buy what he was selling (pipe dreams maybe)?

Since that experience didn’t quite work out Romney hit up the Queen of Media (both black & white) the incomparable Oprah Winfrey. As we all know Oprah tends to stay neutral on political issues but her support of Barack Obama has been open and apparent. Oprah met up with Romney & his wife for an interview that is to be published in O Magazine, unfortunately this one didn’t make it on the big screen. Seemingly smart move by O, we technically can’t afford to give him anymore mainstream attention than necessary… this election is a little too close (if you didn’t know read our post on How Big Are Romney’s Pockets?)

That said we know there are Black Republicans out there and Black Independents for that matter also and even some Black Democrats who may be on the fence… do you think he is making positive strides in the Black community? (That question is not limited to answers from a particular race)

Spill the beans below…
