This week President Obama hit the campaign trail and brought his swag to the campus at UNC-Chapel Hill and the University of Iowa. It is known that President Obama is a big fan of the UNC basketball team and the fact that NC was a swing state in the 2008 election, gave him more reason to stop by and foster his supporters there.

He delivered a speech to the students there, highlighting his plans to make higher education more affordable and also the current efforts the Obama administration are pursuing to keep federal student loans subsidized and additional loans at an affordable interest rate. The subsidized provision will expire this July, unless members of Congress will agree on preserving it. This has been a less publicized policy issue, that in all actuality will affect students all across the nation.

On Wednesday he also jetted to the mid-west to visit the University of Iowa to chat about the affect changes in student loans will have on students. This has ignited debate on the Senate side when Majority Leader Harry Reid introduced a bill today to keep the loan interest rates low and Minority Leader McConnell didn’t receive it too well.

After the speech on Tuesday, President Obama brought a taste of Hollywood to UNC, as he and Jimmy Fallon teamed up and taped The Fallon Show on campus. Check the video of his “slow jams” …

…We know many of readers are college students, are you prepared to back POTUS and encourage Congress to make affordable higher education a priority? Leave your thoughts and spill the beans below.
