Last week the New York Times released a story that included classified information regarding US military efforts in Iran. In addition to the report in the NY Times there was also a supposed leaking of strategies and action to be taken in Pakistan and Yemen.

Of course when this info became news to the public, outrage and allegations as to who was responsible immediately began and many right-wingers are pointing the blame straight towards President Obama. The most notable shade is being thrown by 2008 GOP nominee Senator John McCain. Over the weekend McCain took the airwaves on CNN’s “State of the Union” and stated that he felt that if President Obama wasn’t directly responsible for the leaks his {Obama} administration surely was.

President Obama released a statement about the controversey stating, “The notion that my White House would purposely release classified national security information is offensive, it’s wrong, and people, I think, need to have a better sense of how I approach this office and how the people around me approach this office.”

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has ordered an official investigation of the release of information to patch the hole and address the issue head on.

With roughly five moths until the 2012 Presidential Election, the stakes are high but are they really that high for the Obama administration to start playing dirty politics. The severe implications that leaking national security information could have are apparent even to the non-political or undeducated person so surely this instance was not a mere mistake.
Senator McCain suggests that the media attention given to this matter is benefiting the Obama Administration.

President Obama has remained the man who takes the high road, so do you think that he would authorize this type of underhanded trickery? Leave your thoughts and spill the beans below…
