Yesterday on Capitol Hill the 113th Congress convened for it's first session! Ordinarily this is a joyous occasion, especially for rookie members, the official photos are taken and all the other good stuff but now that they are back to work will things be any different? Earlier this week a last minute (as we predicted) temporary Fiscal Cliff deal was reached. After both sides fighting tooth and nail the deal reached included features like a permanent 20% tax on Capital Gains and Dividends for individuals and families at the $450,000/$400,000 threshold (a major win for them because during the Clinton...

Fiscal Cliff Crunchtime for Senate

December 27, 2012

Now that the Christmas Holiday has passed, it's time for politicians to return to Washington and address the most pressing issue at present, advoiding the Fiscal Cliff. Staying true to form the Republican majority House of Representatives was unable to reach a deal before the holiday break. That being said, the Democractic led Senate is taking up the mantle in an attempt to make a deal before the New Year. The current challenges surround the mere four days Senators have to reach a deal that will pass the House and get over to President Obama to be signed into law by the 31st. Senate Majority...

The Verdict… That’s Why You Mad???

July 3, 2012

Its been roughly 5 days since the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act some right-wing conservatives are still bothered by the verdict and the whole idea of the ACA. America's smartest female politician, Sarah Palin {insert sarcasm here} has been amongst the more vocal members of the group calling House Minority Leader Nancy Pelsoi a "dingbat" {can she really say that?} and President Obama a "tool" on Fox News over the weekend. But attention-seeking Palin isn't the only one upset about the 5-4 verdict, Congressional Republicans are clutching on to the hope that they will be able to #Repeal#...

Determining who will represent the Arizona's 8th Congressional District will be decided today. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords announced earlier this year that she would focus on her rehabilitation instead of returing to Congress, after being shot in the head at a townhall meeting in 2011. The candidates up for her seat are her former aide, Ron Barber, who was himself injured during the townhall attack in 2011 and Tea-party/ GOP candidate Jesse Kelly. This election can also be used as a somewhat foreshadowing tool of what's important in voters eye's, seeing as though it is the last election nationwide...

No Buffett Rule in the Senate

Everyone's favorite billionaire Warren Buffet has been attempting to advocate for the little people ever since he realized that his own secretary is taxed at a higher rate than he was last year. This finding led to the infamous Buffett Rule that Mr. Buffett submitted as a proposal to Congress. The Buffett Rule would require Americans who gross over $1 million dollars to pay a higher tax rate. The Buffet Rule was endorsed by President Obama, who tried to rally support to get this passed and allow the wealthy to take an active role in helping the economy. Yesterday, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse...

Rep. Giffords Graceful Exit…

Arizona Democrat Rep. Gabrielle Giffords announced Sunday evening that she would be stepping down from her Congressional seat to focus on her health and recovery, as a result of being struck in the head by a bullet during a townhall meeting last year. Giffords was one of 13 people wounded, while 6 others were killed. Though it seemed that Rep. Giffords had experienced a speedy recovery and returned back to the House of Representatives in the latter part of 2011, her wounds haven't completely healed. Her speech was severly affected in the assassination attempt and is one of the of the areas that...

As we've mentioned in previous posts, the current beef between Democrats and Republicans in Congress is over their conflicting views on how to handle the national debt. On Friday the Democrats in the Senate rejected the Republican introduced "Cut, Cap, Balance", which included over $100 billion dollars in cuts to governement funded programs. On Monday evening  President Obama addressed the nation in a short speech calling for compromise where everyone "gives a little". President Obama who assumed his always calm and cool approach, has become far more vocal concerning this crisis in recent...
