Students and supporters of higher education spoke up to their representatives and Congress had no choice but to listen. Just before breaking for holiday recess the House and the Senate voted on measures to appropriate money for highway construction & repairs and most importantly to NOT DOUBLE FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN INTEREST RATES!!!!!! Both sides of the aisle came together on this one, with overwhelming majorities on the issues- House vote 373-52 and the Senate 74-19.
