On September 8, 2011, President Barack Obama delivered his Presidential Address to a joint session of Congress. The address began with the President acknowledging that American people are frustrated with government and their selfish actions. The President appealed to the average American, who’s making financial cutbacks around their home in an effort to survive in this nation. The President emphasized on the importance of education and establishing a strong economy to benefit the future.

President Obama declared the American Jobs Act will provide:

-The elimination of payroll tax cuts, which causes a tax break for businesses- an advantage for small struggling business

-Job creation through revamping transit systems and through infrastructure construction

-Tax credit for an employer who hires anyone who has been unemployed for longer than 6 months

-Aid set aside for states to help prevent teacher layoffs

The bill was expected to be acceptable for both Republicans and Democrats, as Obama has worked to duplicate several bills written by both parties. As of October 11, 2011 “The Jobs Bill” failed to gain enough support from the Senate in order to advance. After a vote in the Senate, the bill was short by a total of 9 votes to prevent a Republican filibuster. A filibuster is a strategic procedure used in Congress by a party either to delay the voting on a bill or prevent an entire vote. As of now, President Obama’s jobs bill will remain stalled in the Senate. With the fate of this bill dwindling, we can expect the once optimistic unemployed voter to now become skeptical and attentive at the polls this election.

President Obama is calling on members of Congress to pass the $447 Billion dollar Jobs Bill that he proposed to a joint session three weeks ago. At the beginning of a cabinet meeting Monday October 3rd, the President stated that he expects a vote this month and is ready to sign this bill into law.

The synposis of the plan includes extending unemployment benefits for individuals who are still without work, providing tax incentives to buisnesses who begin to hire more, dispersing money to state and local governments to go get teachers, policemen and etc back to work. The President hopes to finance this plan by incorporating the #BuffettRule (increasing taxes on wealthier Americans) and closing other corporate tax loopholes.

In an attempt to exercise fairness and decency President Obama also asked that right-wing conservatives state their claim against the parts of the bill they did not agree with so those issues can be addressed and the bill can proceed.

It would seem that this plan would be a no-brainer for Congress to pass, especially because it focuses on the most pressing issue to many Americans- JOBS!!! The unfortunate truth is that as logically sound as this may be there will be some members (mainly the tea-party) who will attempt to block the bill and advance their anti-Obama agenda.

I know you maybe wondering what can we do to stop that from happening and I’m glad you asked! This is an occasion when you need to pick up the phone and call your representatives or send an email or fax and tell them to vote YES to the JOBS BILL. It’s just that simple.

If you have no clue who your representatives is- thats where we come in. Grab some mail, get your FULL address, click the find your representatives tab and take down your reps information. Once you’ve done it be sure to spill the beans and share your experience below.

Holding our representatives accountable is our responsibility- get active and be the change you want to see!

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis)the go-to guy for the Republican view on economics is suggesting that President Obama’s job plan and more specificially the “Buffett Rule” in the plan is a declaration of “class warfare”.

On a Fox television newscast Ryan stated that “Class warfare might make for good politics, but it makes for bad economics”. Ryan suggested that the bill would not be supported by House Republicans for this reason. Shortly after Republican Presidential hopeful Herman Cain was featured backing up Rep. Ryan stating that taxing the wealthy should not be an option. These two aren’t the only ones speaking out Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has also stated his opposition to taxing millionaires at the same rate as middle class families that make under $100k per year are taxed. The trio’s rationale for not taxing the wealthy, is rooted in the opinion to not impose taxes at a time of economic roughness?

Maybe their oposition stems from the fact that each of them are multi-millionaires with Cain’s estmated networth to be $18 million, McConnell’s $17 million, and Ryan at $2.4 million. Birds of a feather typically flock together and the question of personal interest often is unaccounted for.

With so many middle class citizens out of work and unable to contribute payroll taxes and etc. into the economy, one must question wether this is another ploy to resist President Obama and create controversey on the part of Republicans. (Yet another distraction is probably comming up) Common sense would suggest that if one of the highest earners in our country would publicly welcomed a tax increase, that there has to be some merit to the idea.

The only way to stop Repbulicans before they “First 48″ the bill is to stay active and urge your representatives to vote for the Jobs Bill. Everyone’s favorite ex-president Bill Clinton is set to focus his Annual Global Initiatives Meeting this week. President Clinton stated that he felt Obama’s Job Plan was very good. The meeting this week will focus on the work that leaders that are outside of Capitol Hill can do to create jobs and ignite the economy once again.
