On Monday the State of Minnesota became the 12th State in the U.S. to legalize same sex marriage. Last week the State of Delaware also passed similar legislation, amending their state constitution to no longer define the institution of marriage as that between a man and a woman. For many politicians same-sex marriage is touchy issue, especially for those who have strong religious backgrounds in the Christian and Catholic faith. In 2011 President Obama announced support of same-sex and his opposition to Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).  Conservative Democrats and Republicans...

Things maybe looking up for the nearly 11 million immigrants currently living in the United States without citizenship. The Latino voters of America sent a message in November to Republican politicians who have previously shied away from Immigration Reform. This group being the tip of the iceberg for Democrats and President Obama in the last election are finally getting some real action. On Monday a group of 8 Senators (both Democrat & Republican) drafted possible legislation that will be used to jump start the Reform process. The focus of the legislation deals with the undocumented individuals...

Yesterday on Capitol Hill the 113th Congress convened for it's first session! Ordinarily this is a joyous occasion, especially for rookie members, the official photos are taken and all the other good stuff but now that they are back to work will things be any different? Earlier this week a last minute (as we predicted) temporary Fiscal Cliff deal was reached. After both sides fighting tooth and nail the deal reached included features like a permanent 20% tax on Capital Gains and Dividends for individuals and families at the $450,000/$400,000 threshold (a major win for them because during the Clinton...

Next Up for Secretary of State, Senator John Kerry

Posted by: Madame Smith    Tags:  Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, President Obama, Secretary of State, Susan Rice    Posted date:  December 17, 2012  |  No comment

December 17, 2012

After all of the drama last week surrounding the September 11th Benghazi attacks and Amabassador Susan Rice's comments, Rice dropped her name from the pool of candidates for Secretary of State and speculation into who would be President Obama's next choice arose. White House sources have revealed that Massachusetts Senator John Kerry will indeed be President Obama's choice. Senator Kerry will still have to survive through a series of Senate Confirmation hearings to officially assume the role. Kerry, was selected as the 2004 Democratic Presidential Nominee and chairman of the Senate Foreign...

Fiscal Cliff Funnies

December 11, 2012

With just 3 weeks until the dreaded "cliff date" no details have been released by President Obama or House Speaker John Boehner regarding negotiations between the two parties to curb the automatic tax hikes and spending cuts that will ensue without action. Part of the hold up has been that Republicans don't want to raise taxes on wealthier people and also which programs would most likely see cuts. President Obama is petitioning hard to save Social Security from seeing a hit. Although this issue is pretty serious, we all need a little fun sometimes so check out SNL's parody of President Obama and Speaker...

November 13, 2012

After a hard fought campaign, President Obama remains stationed in the Oval Office for the next four years. Naturally, in a country with a two-party system some people oppose his leadership. The reality is President Obama is our nation’s leader and the majority of citizens believe he was the most qualified candidate for the job. It is imperative that both Republicans and Democrats work together in this new term; it is the only way the country can reach its greatest potential. Anchor and television host, Rachel Maddow delivered some powerful on-air rhetoric the night after the election....

2 TERMS!

November 7, 2012

After a well-fought and tiring campaign, President Obama was re-elected last night for a second term. The election coverage was extremely intense, and dare I say, almost as intense as Bush v. Gore. This time we had two men with two very different plans for the country. President Obama and Governor Romney couldn’t be anymore different in their ideologies. Naturally, there was a lot on the line last night, especially for middle class families, women, and immigrants. Not to mention, the president of this term could potentially appoint multiple Supreme Court justices, which would alter the conservative...

October 30, 2012

You may remember the name Chris Christie from this year’s Republican National Convention. New Jersey governor, Chris Christie delivered the keynote speech at the convention. His speech explained why Mitt Romney would be a greater president than President Obama. Due to the horrific damage of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey, the governor found himself needing assistance from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for his state. Christie noted on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe “It’s been very good working with the president,” “He and his administration have been coordinating with us. It’s...

Over the weekend President Obama allowed MTV studios and host Sway (@RealSway) into his crib, or at the East Wing of the White House for a one-on-one interview that was geared towards young voters and there issues. The 30 minute segment featured Sway asking the President specific questions from polled audiences of MTV viewers. The questions ranged from economic concerns that deal with higher education financial aid to concerns about global climate control matters. President Obama stayed very consistent with his perspective on all the major issues and explained as to the economy, once again,...

Although he went down a couple of points in national polls today, President Obama is kicking the week off fighting back with new campaign ads to target critical voter demographics. Piggy backing off of last weeks debate comments from Governor Romney regarding getting rid of the PBS channel. President Obama has enlisted the help of everyone's childhood friend Big Bird in a recent ad! After Romney's comments the internet has been in an uproar about getting rid of Big Bird... (just heartless). Some of the featured athletes in the campaign videos  include Alonzo Mourning, Juwan Howard, and Dahntay...
