Arizona Democrat Rep. Gabrielle Giffords announced Sunday evening that she would be stepping down from her Congressional seat to focus on her health and recovery, as a result of being struck in the head by a bullet during a townhall meeting last year. Giffords was one of 13 people wounded, while 6 others were killed.

Though it seemed that Rep. Giffords had experienced a speedy recovery and returned back to the House of Representatives in the latter part of 2011, her wounds haven’t completely healed. Her speech was severly affected in the assassination attempt and is one of the of the areas that she plans to focus on in her recovery.

In a press conference over the weekend she stated, “I have more work to do on my recovery, so to do what is best for Arizona, I will step dowin this week.” She does plan to attend President Obama’s State of the Union address tomorrow. Since her announcement she has received much encouragement from her peers in the Democratic Party including, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and President Obama and also from Republican colleagues in the Arizona State Legislature. Giffords promised that this isn’t the last the public will see of her and upon full recovery she will return to her commitment to advocating for who and what she believes in.

Her resignation will force a special election in Arizona and myriad of candidates are lining up to try and get the 8th Congressional Seat. Republican State Senator Frank Antenori and Gifford’s 2010 opponent Jesse Kelly are throwing their name in the ring. On the other hand, Arizona Democratic state legislators such as Paula Aboud may run and there is even speculation as to Mark Kelly (Gifford’s husband) or her current Chief of Staff Ron Barber may run. The seat will remain vacant until the special election occurs.

Check out the message to her constituents and supporters here…

Monday, White House Chief of Staff (COS), Bill Daley, formally submitted his resignation to President Obama.

Daley who signed on as COS last year after now Mayor and former Congressman Ron Paul left DC to return to Chicago to enter the mayoral race. Daley submitted his resignation to President Obama last week but was encouraged to “think it over”. Well he did and he still wanted out.

It has been cited in the media that Daley could not handle the enormous pressure of Capitol Hill and during the final months of his tenure as COS, had special help from top White House Aides to assist him with projects.

President Obama spoke very highly of Daley’s work and stated that the two man are both in agreement on his successor. He will be replaced by current Budget Director Jack Lew. Lew will be Obama’s third COS before his first term is completed.

Do you think it’s happened by coincidence or could the COS stress be that great? Spill the beans…

If Twitter isn’t popular enough, the ability to twitpic makes creating an account even more attractive. With the capacity to capture moments on your phone at the click of a button, is part of what has defined technology during our generation. We can take pictures of a game-winning jumper or a live performer on stage and publish it for all of our followers to enjoy. Well, that’s the good part of publishing twitpics; what about when twitpics go wrong?

United States Congressman Anthony Weiner has admitted to taking a twitpic of himself in underwear and sending the photo to a young female student. When the scandal first arose, Weiner denied sending the lewd photo of himself and blamed the published photo on a hacker. As the story unfolds, the married Congressman admits to sending the photo of his underwear and engaging in inappropriate relations with women he has met online. Weiner has reported to CNN correspondents: “To be clear, the picture was of me, and I sent it. I’m deeply sorry for the pain this has caused my wife, and our family, my constituents, my friends, my supporters, and my staff.” “I lied because I was ashamed at what I had done, and didn’t want to get caught.”

House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi has already announced that she supports an investigation by the Ethics Committee to determine if any of Weiner acts were unconstitutional and a direct violation of his honorable position. The relationship between Pelosi and Weiner dates back to 2006 when he took a stand against Pelosi in a leadership battle. This conflict didn’t necessarily play in his favor, now some members are hesitant to vocalize public support for him. The Congressman has made it clear that he has no intentions to resign from his position.

Anthony Weiner is the Representative for the New York’s 9th Congressional district. The Congressman is fulfilling his seventh term in this position and is known as one of the most talenteted debaters in the House. Many people recognize him from his fiery speech on the House floor in response to the obstruction of a health care bill for 9/11 first responders. During his time on the House floor, he refused to yield his time to speak due to his passion for helping those emergency respondents. Weiner wife is Huma Abedin, aide for Hilary Clinton and has stated she will stand by her husband in this matter. Do you believe the Congressman should resign?
