The Fall of Santorum

Posted by: Kaine    Tags:  2012 Presidential Race, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum    Posted date:  April 11, 2012  |  No comment

April 11, 2012

Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum announced on Tuesday he is withdrawing from the race. Santorum has remained Romney’s chief opponent for the latter half of this Republican race. Recent campaign ads sponsored by Mitt Romney highlighted Santorum decreasing support in the polls; if Santorum would have lost the upcoming Pennsylvania primary and the four other states featured that day, it would have been the end to his campaign either way. Withdrawing from the race will allow Santorum to save money used for campaigning and focus on his family. Recently, his daughter was hospitalized for a serious...

“He got a big ego”…

Ego is defined as "a person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought." Many people would agree that to be a politician you need to have an ego but to be a memorable one you need a "big ego" or place high value on oneself, but when does that go to far. For the past couple of months the 3 top candidates for the GOP nominee have been Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich and as primaries are coming to a close and November quickly approaches it's evident who's the top contender. There can only be one, but Former...

Romney Scores Big in Illinois

Posted by: Madame Smith    Tags:  2012 Presidential Election, Illinois primary, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, republican nominee, Rick Santorum    Posted date:  March 21, 2012  |  No comment

March 21, 2012

Last night at the close of the Illinois Primary Mitt Romney took the win with over 46% of the vote. Romney's win in Illinois expands his delegate count to 300 helping him to gain a larger stride over 2nd runner up Rick Santorum. He's gaining momentum in the mid-west but is it enough juice to help him win conservative states in the south such as Louisiana? Last month Romney was able to rack up over $6 million through his Super PAC "Restore Our Future". That same PAC used that and $23 million more to fund television ads and etc in order to secure Romney's win on Tuesday. He has also been able...

Down In the Delta

Tuesday wrapped up the Alabama and Mississippi Republican Primaries and the big three, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich are still going head to head till the finish line. The winner of both states primaries yesterday was Former Senator Rick Santorum, who many have nicknamed the comeback kid. Santorum and his conversative policy ideals worked their magic down south with Republican voters. Newt Gingrich came in second place behind Santorum and ironcially Mitt Romney came in third. Although he is technically still in the race Ron Paul's numbers were not comparable to the big three. According...

Not So “Super” Tuesday

Posted by: Kaine    Tags:  Delegate count, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Super Tuesday    Posted date:  March 7, 2012  |  No comment

March 7, 2012

Super Tuesday wasn’t so super for Mitt Romney after all. Sure, he won 6 of the 10 states but his losses reveal a lot about his current campaign. Losing North Dakota, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Tennessee proved exactly what many Romney critics are concerned about; Romney doesn’t have this race in the bag. In addition to these losses, Romney won Ohio by a slim margin. This struggle reveals Santorum has much more appeal with working class voters and extreme conservatives. Super Tuesday increased Mitt Romney’s delegate count to a total of 364 and Santorum’s to a total of 164. The magic number...

The results are in and Mitt Romney has won both Michigan and Arizona primaries. What does this mean? Well for starters, Romney has proved to many voters of the GOP that he was and still is the frontrunner for this election. Romney noted last night, “We didn’t win by a lot but we won by enough and that’s what counts.” Santorum on the other hand suffered a loss, but fortunately for him Michigan is not a winner-take-all state like Arizona; allowing him to walk away with at least 11 delegates from the lost. Romney took home 29 delegates in Arizona last night. The next big move is Ohio....

The Real Candidates of the GOP

Tonight we will find out the results to both the Arizona and Michigan primary, two very key states in this race. The last few weeks of campaigning have seemed oddly familar to a sad reality show that you just can't turn off. What can we expect to happen tonight? Well polls are currently projecting a close race between Santorum and Romney. This is disappointing for Romney’s camp because Michigan is his state of birth and his father previously served as governor there. If his father’s name still carries any weight, we are sure to find out tonight. Victories in both states are crucial to both...

College Worth It or Not?

February 28, 2012

Education is a cornerstone of American society and most of us can agree that the typical "American Dream" described to us as children includes graduating high school, going to college and then getting a "good job" to support your family. The American educational system is sometimes a hot topic in politics but most recently it hasn't been present in political debates but instead in snide remarks. Over the weekend GOP Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum stated to a crowd "Obama wants everyone to go to college, what a snob." (Note in Santorum's eyes if you value education your a snob) Santorum's...

February 21, 2012

GOP Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has been vying for attention by any means as of lately, throwing shots at his direct competitors and also at President Barack Obama. This past weekend Santorum spoke out against a provision in President Obama's Health Care plan that requires clinicians to provide amniocentesis to expectant mothers for free. Amniocentesis is a medical testing procedure that takes fluid from a woman's amniotic sack to test for genetic abnormalities or chromosonal defects in unborn children. The procedure is administered with a needle to the sack and a small sample is removed...

The Final Four Get Heated in the 904!

January 27, 2012

Thursday night things got mucho caliente in Florida as the Final Four Republican candidates went head to head for their first stake at a diverse state and also the Republican ticket. The top two contenders Gingrich and Romney went for each others throat on almost every issue. The topic of immigration really brought the dogs out! Romney put Gingrich in his place in reference to "anti-immigrant candidate" comments that Gingrich made towards Romney. Meanwhile Gingrich retailiated mentioning Romney's campaigning of his "Spanish is the language of the ghetto" comments. They also exchanged words...
