Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Cory Booker could easily be considered on of the most famous local politicians in America. He has been a very vocal supporter of President Obama and he is very active on social networks. If you are one of his 1.2 million followers on twitter (@CoryBooker) you know that he, not a member of his staff actually tweets from the account and also communicates with his constituents about issues via twitter. During a recent twitter conversation a constituent and Mayor Booker were discussing the importance of nutrution in public schools and the lack of access of poor families...

Oh the power of social networking {twitter specifically} to get the drama stirred up! You would think that election season would prompt indirect twitter beefs with candidates but recently it was Journalist Roland Martin and Rapper Lupe Fiasco who went head to head. The issue: VOTING Exactly what triggered the exchang of tweets is technically unnesscessary but the content in the exchange shows the polar opposite beliefs in the black community altogether. Lupe has maintained his extreme anti-voting/anti-system beliefs that he broadcasted to the world on his "Words I Never Said" track off of th Lasers...

We first told you about the Voter ID controversy surrounding new laws in Texas, but that isn't the only state being affected by the legislation. These laws will adversely affect as many as 5 million voters nationwide. These issues today are reminiscent of the 2000 election between Al Gore and George W. Bush, where many early and absentee voters in Florida were slighted and their votes were not counted because of new procedures. The following states have been reported to have serious changes implemented concerning Voter ID: Tennessee, Florida, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama,...

We all know social media is a great way to connect with people and though it's an extraordinary gift to our generation, it's also a curse when your job is concerned. In the private sector, some companies bar employees from utilizing the sites at work and also require employees to sign agreements to not "speak on behalf" of the company. The public sector can be a little different especially when it pertains to members of Congress and their press secretaries. For a elected official on any level, a press person is one of the most important people on their staff. The way in which a politician is portrayed...

Monday morning, Roland Martin (@rolandsmartin) went in on twitter about student loans! I was able to screenshot a majority of the best tweets and posted them below.  Mr. Martin brought up a very real topic in our community today.  He was very candid, as he always is, and laid it out very plainly for all of his followers.  He is a huge proponent of education, but warns that college educations come with a cost.  He mentioned how he was accepted to Texas Christian University (TCU), but turned the opportunity down because of his family's finances.  He encourages all current and future college...

News anchors have a great deal of responsibility, we expect them to deliver accurate news, make no mistakes, and be likeable. Whether it is local news stations or a national network, you feel a sense of attachment to that guy or girl that is delivering your news. Think about it, when ESPN’s Stuart Scott underwent chemotherapy, viewers were concerned as if Scott was a family member. When news correspondent, Don Lemon announced he was gay, tons of viewers applauded his personal charge. The question still remains, how personal are these extended family members allowed to be? CNN correspondent,...

Today, Congressman Anthony Weiner has announced his apology and resignation of his position in Congress. He announced his resignation in a very somber tone to a rowdy crowd. Members of the audience cheered as he gave his resignation and some shouted slurs such as "pervert." The Congressman apologized to his wife and gave a list of thanks to his staff, family, and the people he served. Check out the video and back story below. If Twitter isn’t popular enough, the ability to twitpic makes creating an account even more attractive. With the capacity to capture moments on your phone at the click...
