On Monday the State of Minnesota became the 12th State in the U.S. to legalize same sex marriage. Last week the State of Delaware also passed similar legislation, amending their state constitution to no longer define the institution of marriage as that between a man and a woman. For many politicians same-sex marriage is touchy issue, especially for those who have strong religious backgrounds in the Christian and Catholic faith. One of the most anticipated trials is current underway as the Supreme Court determines whether President Obama’s health care reform is unconstitutional or not. The hearing started Monday and has already reached points of high intensity. Those that oppose the legislation believe by allowing Congress to regulate healthcare, an unhealthy precedent will be set. Federal judges in Texas experienced backlash from the Supreme Court over the weekend, in response to their attempt to draw new State Legislative and Congressional District maps. Traditionally, voting district maps are drawn according to population. Texas has experienced a population growth of over 20% in the past ten years the new districts are more than necessary. The date was June 7, 1892, and Homer Adolph Plessy decided to buy a railroad ticket that would change civil rights and the lives of both African-Americans and Caucasian people. The ticket was for a train passage from New Orleans to Covington, Louisiana. While aboard this train Plessy sat in the “Whites Only” section of the railcar and refused to relocate. Upon his arrest, his court date was set and history was beginning to be made. John Howard Ferguson was the prosecutor appointed to handle this case.
